El Tomaria Farm has been in operation since 1968.  Owners Tom and Mary Uelsmann fell in love with the Colombian Paso Fino Horse a year earlier after a trip to Meridian Meadows by gracious invitation of Dave Jones.  Mary says that after a few trips around the arena on Guala (mother of Resorte III) Tom was grinning from ear to ear and she knew they would be coming home with some Pasos.  Their first five horses included the mares Venus and La India with the colt Decius Que Tal by her side.  Decius figured prominently into El Tomaria's breeding program.  Two years later, after attending their first National Show, they were able to add the outstanding yearling, Faldero Que Tal to their farm.  Faldero was a son of Guala and therefore, brother to Resorte III.

The Uelsmann family realized this young colt, Faldero, was something special and sent him, at two years of age, to a new Colombian trainer in the states, Alvaro Iriarte.  In Alvaro's and son, Juan Carlos' hands, Faldero earned the titles of National Champion Bellas Formas Stallion  and Reserve National Champion Fino Stallion in 1974.  Faldero placed at Nationals many times in Fino, Performance and Bellas Formas.  He even won Nationals in Western Pleasure, showing the versatility of this amazing horse.

The Uelsmanns were able to bring their horses home for training when Mario Aristizibal and later his brother Andres, came to live with them and attend Semo University in Missouri.  Weekends around El Tomaria farm were fillied with parties and riding and introducing the public to their beloved Paso Fino breed.   The breeding tradition continued at El Tomaria, as the Colombian stallion, Juan Juan, gift from the Aristizibal family, was imported in 1981.

Juan Juan reproduced his kind intelligence, lovely buckskin color,
tight earset, beauty, quickness and gait solidifying the "El Tomaria" type for generations to come.

Paso Fino showing became a family affair, and young granddaughter, Beth, along with her parents were frequently seen in the ring locally and at Nationals.  While it was always great to have the horses do well in the hands of the trainers, the success that Beth had in the Youth division was a joy to the Uelsmann family and began their passion for a renown youth program in the Paso Fino breed.  From 1980 to 1985 Beth dominated the youth classes with her mount Caliente, who is being inducted to the PFHA Hall of Fame in 2005.  Click here to read the article.  Beth and Caliente were National Champions in Pleasure or  Equitation eight times and placed at the Nationals countless other times.  Beth continued her love of the horse on through college, where she competed at the Intercollegiate level, winning Reserve National Intercollegiate Champion in Beginner Stock Seat (Western) Equitation in 1990.

After graduating from college, Beth took the reins at El Tomaria and has evolved the farm into a full service training, lesson and breeding facility.   Beth even offers equine classes in conjunction with the local University.  You can learn more about the Training program including the University program and  National accomplishments of clients by visiting
The Training Page.

In 2001 Tom and Mary Uelsmann were inducted into the PFHA Hall of Fame for their dedication and contributions to the Paso Fino Breed.  As founding members of the Ozark Region and long-standing members of PFHA, which evolved from PFOBA, the Uelsmanns operating El Tomaria Farm, have one of the longest-standing programs in the breed.  Click here to read the Hall of Fame induction

In 2002, El Tomaria acquired fino stallion, Veneno de la Clara to continue its breeding tradition.  A jet black son of the legendary Capuchino, by a daughter of Resorte IV, Veneno offers double Resorte IV blood in his second generation!

Perhaps it is  the black color or his success in Bellas Formas and Fino that is so reminiscent of Faldero Que Tal.  A reminder of the past with the bloodlines and talent of the future, Veneno continues the tradition of the stallions of El Tomaria and takes his rightful place as herd sire.

In 2007, Beth and Christian became Mr. and Mrs. to add another chapter to El Tomaria's history. A fantastic team, El Tomaria's success at the 2007 Nationals is a testimony to this great match. The excitement will continues into 2008 as Beth and Christian became proud parents of a beautiful daughter, Lena Marie.

El Tomaria is one of the oldest Paso Fino breeding farms in the United States with continuous service to the Paso Fino breed.  With the addition of training and lesson services, and a constantly evolving breeding program, El Tomaria's future is bright.  We thank you for your interest and invite you to continue on our website to learn more about us.  We know we can help your dreams come true in the breed so you can write your own part of Paso Fino history.
